‘ve loved these Nike redesigns since the first time I saw one… really I have, I even tweeted it. When I stumbled across this video on Kickstarter the other day I was hooked all over again. Not that this project needs any more money (it has raised $40,000 +), but I would donate a few dollars just to get a high res PDF to put on my computer like the one below. Yup, I’m that hooked (and I like my Nikes that much). Continue reading →
In case you haven’t already figured it out – I am not only an active participant in World Cup mania, but I also purposefully instigate and encourage it! Today, I am going to kill two birds with one stone – show off a web/fashion find and express World Cup love.
If you like clothes, ads, art and blogging, then Polyvore will make your day. It is the perfect website to “express your style” by mixing & matching products from your favorite stores and also be creativly constructive (aka shop). This is a polyvore creation by user SPINELLI. It is titled “What’s Your Mantra” and is perfect for World Cup action. Combining fantastic Nike advertisements with some drool worthy workout apparel, I blame this image for the two hours I spent shopping on Nike.com and WorldSoccerShop.com today…
Revolutionary War take three? Get ready for history according to Amanda…
Revolutionary War part 1: The legit one. The one we learn about in elementary school that involved the guerilla warfare fighting Yanks against the repulsive yet refined English Redcoats. There was Paul Reverie’s ride, George Washington’s river trip, and some pretty cold nights at Valley Forge. But in the end guess who came out on top? The little-country-who-could.
Revolutionary War part 2: In 1950 a little tough group of American kids came together on a soccer field on The Hill (aka and Italian neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri where I practiced soccer – I even played on the same field) to find out they get to not only be the American World Cup team, but also take on the “Kings of Football,” England. The semi-pro underdogs who had never even played a full scrimmage together until the week before, somehow astonish the world and the little-team-who-could ended up on top.
Revolutionary War part 3: In 2010 soccer in America is at a crossroads. The die-hard fans and the veteran national team players have worked since the 2002 World Cup to prove to the country that, yes, soccer is here to stay and, yes, it is the most popular sport in the world so you should pay attention. Now the country IS paying attention. The media is buzzing and even ESPN owns the rights to the whole tournament – I mean if ESPN is coughing up the big bucks, that should mean something the football knuckle-heads who worship every episode of SportsCenter. It is time for the USMNT to prove itself and capture the country’s respect and fascination. Who do they have to beat to do that? England. So let’s go little-country-who-can!
Side note: This may just be the greatest commercial promoting a sports event. It has everything any fan could want – dirty tackles, world-class players, and candid moments. When you can get Wayne Rooney to pretend to get fat and live in a trailer in the same ten seconds as being knighted and beating Roger Federer in ping pong, you have a winner. If you don’t “get it” or like this commercial, then clearly you do not know enough about international soccer to deserve an explanation – sorry.
